Opening of Dewata leisure beach park

April 19, 2026

A Beach Leisure Park Opening Initiative was successfully implemented at Dewata on 19th of April 2026 by opening a beach leisure park.

Marine and coastal ecosystem degradation often begins on land and intensifies along shorelines before severely affecting coral reef systems. Land-based pollution, unmanaged solid waste, sediment runoff, physical reef damage, and progressive coral loss collectively place immense pressure on marine biodiversity and threaten fisheries, food security, and the socio-economic stability of coastal communities.

Beach landscaping is the planned and eco-friendly development of coastal areas to protect the natural beach environment while making it safe, attractive, and accessible for people.

It involves assessing the beach conditions, cleaning polluted areas, covering the open land and setting the environment as an attractive place

The initiative was implemented by the Udahamulla Leo Club, District 306 D7 under Waves of Hope Initiative, with guidance from the Udahamulla Lions Club, District 306 D7. It is proudly sponsored by Kangara Holdings Pvt Ltd. Scientific and technical support was provided by the Department of Coast Conservation and and Coastal Resource Management.
