As the inaugural phase of the Waves of Hope initiative, the founder, drawing from experience as a certified diver and active Leo Club member launched an Ocean Photography Exhibition after witnessing the striking contrast between the ocean’s breathtaking beauty and its growing vulnerability.

The Ocean Photography Exhibition was successfully held on 23rd August 2025, at Browns Beach, Negombo, Sri Lanka engaging communities and inspiring deeper concern for ocean conservation.

The main objective of the ocean photography exhibition was to raise public awareness of marine ecosystems and the environmental threats they face through compelling underwater visual storytelling.

The event successfully brought together over 400 attendees, who were educated on coral reef threats through a combination of impactful underwater photography, interactive learning zones, and expert-led discussions. More than 10 schools and community groups participated, with attendees reporting a significant increase in their understanding of marine conservation.

Undergraduates from the Ocean University of Sri Lanka, along with school students, actively took part in the program. In recognition of their contribution to the Waves of Hope Project, they were awarded Certificates of Appreciation.

Demonstrating strong youth leadership, members of the Batticaloa Leo Club also joined the initiative. Their commitment, organizational skills, and enthusiasm in areas such as event management, public speaking, and environmental advocacy played an important role in the success of the project.

Following the successful completion of Phase 1, the diving community came together with the Waves of Hope team to initiate planning for Phase 2, the coral reef restoration effort. Their collaboration will be vital in identifying suitable underwater geographic locations and providing the technical guidance required to ensure an effective and scientifically informed restoration process.
